UPTIC Summer Intern Job Application The Positions: One student intern position is available for the summer of 2002 (from May through August) at the Upper Peninsula Tree Improvement Center. YOU MUST BE PURSUING OR HAVE RECEIVED A DEGREE IN FORESTRY OR OTHER NATURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT RELATED FIELD TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THESE POSITIONS. Students of Michigan State University and other Michigan universities receive priority consideration. Each year the student interns are involved with a range for forestry projects in the Upper Peninsula. We work on three University properties (you can review information about these properties elsewhere on this web site) and on lands owned by cooperators. Work includes plantation establishment and maintenance, forest inventory and mapping, research plot establishment and measurement, and grounds maintenance. About half the work will be assisting with research and require strong attention to detail. The other half will involve grounds and forest maintenance involving strenuous outdoor activities like cutting brush and pruning trees with power equipment. The position pays $8.00 per hour and includes free lodging in small houses at each property (information about these buildings can also be found elsewhere on this web site). 40 hours per week of work is expected on a schedule that can be flexible under certain circumstances. In the past, students have taken long weekends or breaks at various times and arranged to make-up the time by working more than 8 hours on a particular day. This system works as long as the other folks involved with the project agree. I like to make a hiring decision in March so that both you and I have some idea of how our summer will work out. If you are interested in being considered for one of these positions, complete the form below and send it to me. I will be happy to receive any additional information you wish to send and to speak with you about any questions you have. The contact information is listed at the top of this page. You can fill out the form below and it can be automatically emailed to me. I will place the information in a file at our office and it will be held in strict confidence. If you prefer, you can send the information another way -- be creative! The Application: OR send a copy of this information to: Dr. Raymond O. Miller, Manager
