Drybean field
Drybean breeding is one of the major efforts carried out on the farm.  The following images illustrate some of the goals of this research.
Bean comparison
One trait that is looked at is time to maturity.  Best yields are obtained when the full growing season is utilized.
Comparing disease resistance
Improved disease resistance is one of the primary goals of the drybean breeding program.
Clay soil in drought conditions
Another desirable trait which is considered in a drybean breeding program is drought tolerance.  This slide illustrates how the clay soil on the farm reacts to droughty conditions.
Prostrate growth in drybeans
A prostrate growth habit leads to problems avoided by varieties with a more upright architecture.
