Visitor Information W.K. Kellogg Forest has a unique quality that combines forestry research and in a setting that is also conducive to forest recreation. Visitors to the Forest range from researchers who work on or come to view 150+ experimental plots, college students who come to learn and sharpen forestry skills, forest enthusiasts who attend specialized extension, in addition to the casual visitors whose interests range from adding their knowledge of forest management to those searching for a shady spot enjoy a picnic lunch. Popular Forest Visitor Activites: hiking, picnicking, jogging, biking, horseback riding (bring your own horse), forest loop drive, walking your dog on a leash, bow hunting, cross country skiing, and trout fishing. There are no alcoholic beverages allowed within the forest.
Hours The gates will open every morning at 8:00 a.m. with the exception of Christmas Day, New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Easter Sunday. Closing times will be as follows:
Office hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday-Friday. The picnic grounds and parking area will always be open during the hours listed. The loop road will be closed once it begins snowing, reopening after the spring thaw.
Hunting Bowhunting at the forest will open October 1st. After signing in at the office, any licensed bowhunter may hunt deer from October 1 to January 1st. No firearms are allowed in the forest for the entire hunting season. All hunters must sign-in daily at the office and register their harvest.
