About the W.K. Kellogg Experimental Forest

Mission Statement

As outlying units of the Agricultural Experiment Stations of Michigan State University, the mission shared by the W.K. Kellogg Experimental Forest and the Fred Russ Research Forest is to:

  1. Promote and conduct forestry related research projects in coordination with MSU's Department of Forestry
  2. Demonstrate forest stewardship based on sound management concepts in managing non-research forest lands
  3. Promote forestry research and management through extension, outreach, and interaction with the media and daily visitors.

 

Staff

Laura Hirleman, Secretary
Assists the forester and forest supervisor in matters relating to the office. Also assisting in facilitating Extension and Outreach programs at the Forest.

James Curtis, Forest Technician
Responsible for field application of specific research projects in addition to maintenance on forest equipment and vehicles.

Greg Kowalewski, Resident Forester
Responsible for forest and forest office management. He handles forest research, education, and multiple use planning, coordination, and implementation.

Mickey Trimner, Forest Labor
Responsible for daily grounds and building upkeep as well as assisting in forest operations.

John Vigneron, Forest Supervisor
Responsible for overseeing and supervising the forest management objectives.
