Animal Agriculture and the Environment: Finding Balance
Winter/Spring 2008
(1 MB, PDF)
Air quality and water quality are the two biggest concerns associated with animal agriculture, and both are directly related to manure and how it’s handled. In this issue, read about MAES scientists’ research to develop new tools and techniques to help livestock farmers have minimal impact on the environment, as well as help non-farmers understand what it takes to produce enough food to meet demand.
The 2007
MAES annual report (4 MB PDF) highlights MAES-funded
projects in five areas of emphasis critical to the MAES mission.
It also contains general information about the MAES and a
financial report.
USDA Special Grant Progress and Impact Fact
Sheets
The USDA Special Grants, coordinated by the Michigan Agricultural Experiment
Station, support ongoing projects that affect agricultural and natural
resources issues in Michigan and beyond. The progress and impacts of
these projects is updated on an annual basis. Links to these updates
are below. There is also a link to a sheet that explains how base funding
dollars provide the infrastructure and foundation for many MAES research
projects.
Research
Reports
Research reports are written by MAES scientists about their research
projects and are generally aimed at a scientific audience. Research
Reports are available from either the Michigan
State University's Main Library or MSU Extension's Bulletin Office.
Some of the publications are available
in PDF here.
USDA Plan of Work Annual Report of Accomplishments
