Station Staff Coordinator of the Northwest Michigan Horticultural Research Station represents a 25% Michigan AES appointment. Responsibilities include overseeing the overall administration and management of the NW Michigan Horticultural Research Station, coordinating all research activities and developing and conducting selected research projects. Jim has been Station Coordinator since 1992. District Horticultural Agent responsibilities represents a 75% MSU Extension appointment dedicated to working with fruit growers, industry related personnel and MSU research and Extension agents to develop and coordinate educational programs that will contribute to the biological sustainability and economic strength of the Michigan fruit industry. Primary emphasis is cherry production. The district assignment is for northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula, with nearly all of the fruit concentrated in the northwest area of the lower peninsula. Also serves as a statewide leader for cherry Extension programming. Provides secretarial support to the Coordinator, Farm Manager, and District Fruit IPM Agent at the NW Michigan Horticultural Research Station by performing work characteristic of a receptionist, bookkeeper, typist, and general clerical assistant in order to facilitate optimal functioning of Station work flow. Also coordinates scheduling and billing for a faculty-student dormitory and conference facility located on the Station property. Jackie has been on staff since 1981. Farm Manager for the NW Michigan Horticultural Research Station in Traverse City since 1983. He oversees the upkeep and maintenance of the facilities and research plots for the various fruit crops (cherry, apple, plum, peach, apricot, grape and nuts) located on the 100 acre research facility. Her position develops programs and desemminates information on IPM to the fruit industry in NW Michigan. Nikki also will be doing IPM related research. Myron is the Horticultural Aide at the Station. His job is to help maintain the various research plots and related equipment. Myron has worked at the Station since 1988. Alison began working at the Station in
1996. Her position entails part-time secretarial support and data
collection and entry.
