Montcalm Research Farm
Michigan’s potato and dry bean producers are the main beneficiaries of the research and knowledge generated at the Montcalm Research Farm, a 57-acre facility near Stanton. The station also leases 40 additional acres for research and demonstration projects. Scientists are studying potato variety evaluation; cultural practices; fertility; and weed, insect and disease control, all aimed at providing growers with innovative techniques that have the least possible environmental impact. Michigan ranks 10th in the nation in potato production – the tubers add almost $93 million to the state’s economy each year, making them one of the state’s top 10 crops.
