Welcome to the Michigan Agricultural Experiment Station (MAES) at Michigan State University

The MAES is more than just one building or lab where experiments and laboratory work take place. It encompasses the work of more than 300 scientists in six colleges at MSU: Agriculture and Natural Resources, Communication Arts and Sciences, Engineering, Natural Science, Social Science and Veterinary Medicine. Their goal, and the goal of the MAES as a whole, is to find solutions to issues faced by the people of Michigan. Michigan residents benefit from this research in the form of new and improved products, foods and plants, new production methods, a healthy and safe environment, and enriched lifestyles and communities.

On this Web site, you can read the latest news about MAES research projects and scientists, as well as search for a specific researcher or project. Or you can do a general search and learn about all the MAES research on water quality, food safety, integrated crop management, ethanol production, bullying or land use planning, for example. You can find information on the 14 MAES field research stations located around the state and our research initiatives on plants, animals, community vitality and families.

And who benefits from all this MAES research? The people of Michigan -- all of them. The economic, environmental and social future of Michigan depends on education. And education depends on research. Research that develops kits to detect toxins in food before it is processed. Research that cultivates new varieties of fruits and vegetables that are more profitable for growers and continue to meet the high quality standards demanded by consumers. Research that develops new agricultural production methods that increase profits while preserving the integrity of the environment. Research that identifies the values that contribute to the quality of life in Michigan. Research that gives Michigan a competitive edge.

I invite you to explore our Web site and learn more about MAES research for Michigan's future.
